An outstanding education is provided to students at Wakefield Community Schools. The district is state and nationally-accredited. As of the 2022-223 school year, 567 students attend Preschool through High School. The average class size in the Elementary grades is 42. The average class size in grades 7-12 is 37. Wakefield Schools offers half-day 3-year-old preschool and full-day 4-year-old preschool at no cost to district residents. Most elementary grades are in classes of two sections. For the year 2023-24, the 3rd grade will be in three sections. The district is anticipating adding sections to other elementary grades in the future.
Wakefield High School was recognized by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators as a National ESEA Distinguished School for the extraordinary success of our students.
In addition to core subjects, Wakefield Schools offers Fine Arts and Career and Technical Education courses. Courses offered in grades 7-12 include business, consumer sciences, technology, industrial science, music, art, and work-based learning opportunities.
Wakefield Schools offers 1-to-1 iPads for all students. In addition, students in grades 7-12 can take iPads home for school use.
The Wakefield Activity Center is a facility open to the general public. The Activity Center includes a gymnasium with a four-lane walking track and a weight room with free weights, weight machines, treadmills, and stationary bikes. For your convenience, restrooms and locker rooms are also located in the facility. The facility is used by Physical Education classes and sports teams daily. Residents are also welcome and encouraged to come and lift weights and/or exercise during scheduled hours. During the week, the Activity Center is open from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and open on weekends. To use the facility, you must fill out an Activity Center Use Form, and you will be given a fob for access. Contact the High School office for a form.
